Samsara is a Sanskrit term literally meaning "cycle of existence" or "flowing together" . In Indian philosophical and religious traditions such as Hinduism , Buddhism , Jainism and Sikhism , samsara refers to the endless cycle of birth, death and reincarnation in which living beings are trapped due to karma (past actions) and spiritual ignorance.
